Combien de fois, combien de fois (presque toutes) ai-je entendu ces trois mots dans un soupir, une sorte de haussement d’épaule, de gêne, d’acceptation, de dérision, dans de multiples tonalités, quand un de mes malades venait de mourir ?
Combien de fois. A tel point, que je l’attendais. Qui le dira le premier ? Encore dans la chambre ou seulement dans le couloir, quand l’évidence brutale de la mort vient d’arriver à la conscience ou peu après, quand il s’agit déjà de s’en libérer ?
« C’est la vie ». Ces trois mots ridicules et paradoxaux quand c’est clairement de la mort qu’il s’agit et que la question est de la tenir à peine à distance tout en affirmant qu’en effet, le dernier instant fait partie intégrante de la vie.
C’est l’instant d’avant et tous les autres encore avant que nous avons vécu aujourd’hui au centre de soins palliatifs de Rueil Malmaison. Nous : le Président de la République (c’est plutôt agréable à dire) et « ma » Ministre, Marisol Touraine.
Très belle visite, non en raison des visiteurs mais des visités. Exemplaires, habités, transcendants, de cette pâte particulière que seule la médecine -pas n’importe laquelle- m’a donné de pratiquer et quelquefois de partager.
Le centre s’appelle « Notre dame du lac » et le lac est le dernier vestige de l’hôtel de Richelieu dont il ne reste pas même une photographie. Un centre de soins palliatifs et de soins de suite de neurologie de 40 lits qui fut novateur puisque dès 1946, il s’installa dans ce rôle, innominé alors, du « soin » quand il se sépare du « traitement » et du projet de guérison.
Il n’y fut question, tout le temps de notre visite (mais certainement avant et après elle) que de vie. Jusqu’au dernier moment, jusqu’à l’instant ultime, la question, le projet, l’ambition de l’équipe, des malades, c’est la vie ; et tout ce que nous y avons partagé, c’est une sorte de bonheur d’une variété peu banale mais pour autant à la portée de tous qui vient du désir de porter et de recevoir des signes que ce bonheur existe.
J’en conviens, l’expression de ce que j’essaye de traduire est un poil emberlificotée. Ce que nous avons partagé ne l’était pas. Au contraire. Comme la lumière, le temps et deux ou trois choses du même ordre, c’était une réalité indéfinissable mais une réalité absolue.
Et puis, encore une chose : le plaisir de retrouver le vrai Hollande, l’homme Hollande, loin du formalisme obligé du Conseil des Ministres, fin connaisseur de ce désir intime de donner sinon du bonheur, quelque chose qui s’en rapproche, en quelques mots, une manière de sourire, d’ouvrir son visage vers l’autre.
« C’est la vie ». La vie dans sa quintessence, son fil impalpable, dont je retrouve la légèreté rien que d’en parler.
Merci à toute l’équipe du lac et à Monsieur de Richelieu qui a eu l’idée de le faire couler à Rueil.

Comme citoyen, comme médecin, comme personne ayant été confrontée à titre personnel aux questions de fin de vie évoquées dans ton billet, je voulais te remercier de ces mots d’humanité écrits ainsi pour des questions aussi graves et aussi personnelles.
C’est dans ces moments là aussi que les mots de « Présidence normale » prennent tout leur sens profond, dans les symboles et dans l’action. Je suis sûr que les propositions qui surviendront dans ce domaine reflèteront cette humanité.
Je savais déjà que je ne m’étais pas trompé dans mes votes et mes soutiens durant la campagne. Merci de me le rappeler ainsi de si belle façon.

Je n’ai intentionnellement pas parlé de l’initiation d’une réflexion sur un élargissement de la loi Léonetti qu’a fait le Président. Les médias n’ont parlé que de cela. Ce n’était que quelques mots dans un (très beau) discours. Nous en avons parlé avec François Hollande avant le discours : il est très proche de ce que je pense et que j’ai vécu, c’est à dire très loin des excès que connaissent certains pays. Nous y reviendrons certainement dans de prochains billets. Celui là était pour traduire une impression, un sentiment qui colorait l’air de cet établissement, pas pour prendre une position.

Je souhaiterais que l’on appelle un chat un chat. Le mot euthanasie fait-il peur ? J’ai 75 ans et j’imagine pour demain, une maladie, un accident, que sais-je, qui me mette complètement à côté des joies et des plaisirs quotidiens, à charge pour les miens, sans retour en arrière, alors je souhaiterais abréger leurs souffrances, et les miennes par conséquent, ayant appris qu’il faut naître, vivre et s’en aller un jour. Me revient un spectacle de danse contemporaine où, sur un écran en fond de scène, on voyait en noir et blanc une interview de John Ford, très affaibli, sur le lit d’hôpital où il savait qu’il allait mourir. Lumineux, enthousiaste, il expliquait que, quelques jours avant la mort, c’est toujours l’incroyable souffle de la vie.

Alors, votre loi sur la dépendance, au lieu de la faire en France – où elle risque d`^etre détricotée ensuite par Copé, Pierre, Jacques,ou Jean (comme en Espagne, et alors cela donne le pire: un espoir perdu!!) …..votre loi sur la dépendance, faites-en d’urgence la première pierre de cette Fiscalité Européenne tant attendue et nécessaire pour enfin fonder l’euro sur quelque chose…
Et cela irait peut-être mieux pour refonder les retraites, également au niveau européen…
Mais bon, c’est peut-être comme en Andalousie: Grignan ne veut plus voir les « critiques » (un bon 30% quand même), il faut serrer les rangs…..
François Hollande, le bon…enfin, François Hollande n’aurait déjà plus assez de sa majorité absolue des 2 Chambres pour gouverner..?

J’ai habité Bruxelles, près de la place Stéphanie puis chaussée de Wavre, c’est-à-dire près de l’avenue Louise, où mon premier pèlerinage a été au numéro 193, maison natale de Marguerite Yourcenar. Comment la commune d’Ixelles peut-elle laisser commettre ce sacrilège ! L’heure est grave, je signe votre Pétition. Les Indignés à Bruxelles ! Il faut faire classer ces arbres au patrimoine de l’Humanité !

C’est Grouwels, l’ultra-flamande chrétienne aussi qui est à la manoeuvre et avait sans doute bien calculé son coup pour effacer ces arbres pendant les vacances (au su de sa copine Joëlle aussi bien)..! Mais il semble qu’ils seront abattus quand même, avec de bonnes raisons « scientifiques » à l’appui…
Je m’en méfierais toutefois. Près d’une petite gare du Sud belge, la SNCB a aussi démoli 2 magnifiques hêtres rouges, qui soit-disant menaçaient la caténaire et étaient passible d’euthanasie selon experts: après abattage, on a constaté que les énormes souches étaient parfaitement et entièrement saines! Le comble, c’est qu’on les a remplacés par 2 d’essence commune plantés à encore 2 mêtres plus près de la voie…!
Mais c’est la crise! faut des décideurs qui décident.
Comme en Andalousie par exemple: après avoir flanqués des alcades en prison pour leur avoir donné des permis illicites, les anglais et allemands obtiennent maintenant du PP une amnistie urbanistique, parce que cela coûterait trop cher de faire démolir leur bicoques!
